Deterministic HIPAA X12 Validation

Catch the error before it costs you.

The Redix HIPAA X12 Validator checks your 837, 835, 270/271, 278 and other 5010 transactions against the configured implementation rules - structural, inter-segment, and balancing. It returns a 999 Implementation Acknowledgment, a TA1, and a plain-English report that names the segment and element at fault.

  • Same input, same result
  • 999 + TA1 + readable report
  • Runs in your environment

Generation is not validation

A system that generates an X12 transaction - including an AI that writes one - should not be its own only check. The Redix validator tests the transaction independently against configured, deterministic rules: the same input, profile, rules, and engine version give the same explainable result. Validate before you convert; validate after you generate.

What it checks

Three levels of checking, inside the environment you control

Structure and syntax

Segments, elements, sequence, and codes against the configured X12 5010 rules. The native 999 tells you the result: IK5 accepts or rejects the transaction; IK3 and IK4 name the segment and element, with the reason.

Inter-segment rules

The cross-segment dependencies a flat syntax check misses: situational requirements, qualifier and reference consistency, and segments that only make sense together.

Balancing

For 837, 835, and 820, flags internal totals that do not tie out - for an 835, the BPR02 payment against claim paid amounts and provider-level adjustments in the same file. A document-internal check, not bank reconciliation or payment posting.

Two acknowledgments, one readable report. Validation outputs include a TA1 interchange acknowledgment and a plain-English summary an operations analyst can act on without decoding raw X12. Engineers still get the 999, the TA1, and the source segments. A 999 reflects structural acceptance against the configured rules; it is not payer adjudication or business acceptance.

Configured to your rules. Validation runs against the implementation rules configured for your environment. Trading-partner companion-guide rules can be added as a configured profile.

Who uses it

Both sides of the transaction

Payers and clearinghouses (receive side)

  • Confirm inbound 837s pass structural and inter-segment checks before adjudication
  • Validate inbound HIPAA transactions before they enter downstream processing
  • Return a 999 that names the structural rejection and the reported fault
  • Turn raw X12 into a report your operations team can act on

Providers, billers, and submitters (send side)

  • Check outbound claims against the configured 5010 profile before submission
  • Find structural problems early and reduce rejection risk
  • Flag an incoming 835 whose internal totals do not tie out before posting
  • See the segment and element where a file failed
How it runs

One engine, three ways to embed it

Command line

Run the engine as a program driven by a small configuration file. Call it from any language, script, or scheduler, on Windows or Linux.

Native library

Link the Redix library and validate in-process, with no subprocess. Callable from C, C++, C#, VB, and Java.

Container and REST API

Run the engine as a container and call it over HTTP: post a file, get the 999, TA1, and report back as JSON. It runs in your datacenter or your own cloud account, not as a Redix-hosted production service.

Runs where your data lives. Production files never have to leave your systems to be checked. The validator is the same Redix AnyToAny Engine that powers our conversion products, configured for validation. The public web tool is for evaluation only; do not use it for production data or protected health information.

See it on your own files

Start with the built-in samples in the live validator, then bring your own test or de-identified X12 to see the 999 and the detailed report. When you are ready for production, we scope the deployment to your workflow. The demo accepts synthetic, test, or de-identified data only.
